Norma Mapplebeck

Recollections of a very lucky escape.

Norma Mapplebeck (nee Visconti) was just a baby when the family house was bombed and she had a very lucky escape:

'I was about 5 months old and buried with my mum in Birkenhead Street.  She couldn’t cry out as the ARP man was standing on her foot and she had dirt in her mouth. I cried apparently and we were dug out. I was paraded round a local hospital as a miracle baby. My mum and granddad survived but my grandma died.'  

Norma lived with her family on 30 Charrington Street, NW1 for elven years but were later re-housed to Kentish Town.
