David Norman

Recollections of evacuation to Birmingham.

David Norman was born in Mortlake and was a small child during the war. Although David was very young at the time, he recalls being evacuated to Birmingham, travelling by train from Waterloo Station. In Birmingham David was billeted near the Birmingham Small Arms Factory, a frequent target in air raids. During one particularly bad air raid, David recalls that an air raid shelter took a direct hit, something which greatly upset him.
