Anthony (Tony) Snitter

Recollections of service in the Fleet Air Arm.

At the outbreak of war Tony was evacuated from Charlton to Tonbridge to escape the expected heavy bombardment of the capital. Tony 'had a worm's eye view' of the Battle of Britain and experienced air raids when he returned to London in 1942. In 1944 Tony was called up and joined the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. He served as a mechanical engineer with the Fleet Air Arm for two years before being demobilised in 1946. In 1945, Tony travelled across the Atlantic via the Suez Canal to the Air Field HMS Garuda in Coimbatore, India.
