Marjorie Jones

Recollections of wartime in Somerset.

Living in Somerset with her family during the war, Marjorie recalls how the family took in an evacuated boy. She recalls ‘When he came he didn’t have a thing on him. All in rags and my mum went out and bought him clothing, shoes and everything’. The boy stayed with the family for five or six years. During this time the boy was not in much contact with his family ‘no Christmas card, no birthday card or anything’. Then at the end of the war, his parents came down and ‘wanted him back’.
